19th August, is declared as world photography day. World Photo Day is an international photography event that celebrates the passion for photography in our communities.
Nowadays millions of photos are uploaded on social sites(instagram and facebook) every minute, it does not matters what equipment or device you use, this day help open your eyes to the possibilities of photography, and enable you show us the world as you see it.
The date behind today’s event originates from the invention of a photographic processes developed by J.N.Nièpce and Louis Daguerre in 1837. A couple of years later in January 9, 1839, The French Academy of Sciences announced the process as the daguerreotype process.
Later on August 19, 1839, French government got the patent and then the invention was announced as gift “Free to the World”.
The Daguerreotype wasn’t the first permanent photographic image.
Permanent photograph was captured by Nicèphore Nièpce in 1826 which was known as ‘View from the Daguerreotype at Le Gras‘
Nicèphore Nièpce used a process called Heliography.
Question arises why then 19th august was chosen as worlds photo day..??
It is because The French government purchased the patent and released it and also for Daguerreotype as the first practical photographic process.
Daguerreotype was commercially introduced in 1839, a date generally accepted as the birth year of practical photography.
